INSULATED CONCRETE FORMS (ICF)
Insulated Concrete Forms (ICFs) allow for reinforced concrete with thermal insulation used for walls, floors, and roofs. ICFs are typically used in low-rise commercial buildings and high-performance residential construction. Buildings built with ICFs provide a number of advantages over conventional cast-in-place walls including:
- Energy efficiency – minimal air leaks and insulation provide increased thermal efficiency compared to conventional masonry methods
- Strength – creates structural concrete wall that is up to ten times stronger than wood-framed walls and provides better resistance to environmental elements
- Sound absorption – ICF walls greatly reduce sound transmission resulting in sound blocking properties within their design
- Fire protection – ICF walls can have a four to six hour fire rating with negligible surface burning properties
- Indoor air quality – ICF walls can regulate humidity levels, reduce potential for mold, and facilitate a more comfortable interior while maintaining high thermal performance
- Insect and vermin control – there are no gaps in ICF walls which inherently prevent insects and vermin from travelling throughout walls
